Consumer Trends for 2010
This article crossed my desk recently and I thought it might be of interest to many of you. It is a list of consumer trends compiled by an international marketing company. Basically it says what we have always known: consumers are smart and getting smarter. That’s a good thing! At SCHMIDT we are always striving to provide innovative services that really make a difference to our clients, and to provide those services in a user-friendly manner such as our extended offfice hours. Also, working with SCHMIDT means you are part of the “buy local” movement as we are an independent local brokerage. We buy from local businesses whenever possible for everything from office supplies to gifts for our clients. And we continue to address the ongoing trend towards shopping online first by ensuring our properties are easily and realistically viewed on our site with top quality professional photos, and by keeping our blog posts current.
Take a look at the list below and see what YOU think!

BBDO Products 2010 Big Trends
1. “Smart is Cool” when it comes to personal finance and recreation.
2. Frugalista Power” will come into full force.
3. Products with longevity will do well. Buying fewer products that last longer is easier on the pocketbook and the landfill.
4. The “Buy Local” movement will grow as people seek to keep local jobs and reduce the carbon costs of transporting goods.
5. The downturn produced “consumer-preneurs” who make money in innovative ways. (For example in some areas) buying solar panels means selling power back to the grid…
6. Being green is good, but saving green is better.
7. Online reputations count for a lot.
8. Communication is instant among consumers who use social media, so brands must be available 24-7 to talk to consumers in real time.
9. 2010 will be a “pro-am world” where professional grade products will find broader use in the consumer sphere. Companies should examine how they can “give power to the people” with higher-tier goods and services.
10. Google-before-you-buy is now part of the purchase cycle.

I don’t do/buy/see anything without Google-ing it first. Bad reviews on products and or service are deadly to businesses now. It only takes one review to make a consumer look to another business.
