Environmentally Friendly Home Improvement
RAISING SPACES is your Canadian connection to the “green” home improvement movement. It’s a space to exchange valuable knowledge and experience with neighbours across the country, allowing you to offer and accept a helping hand while building and renovating “green”. In the real estate profession, we are reminded daily of the interrelationship between our homes, our communities and our planet. Andrea Jones, editor and community builder for RAISING SPACES, has kindly agreed to contribute regularly to our Blog, so that we can pass along this valuable information to our friends and clients.
Today Andrea writes…
Nature does its daily dealings in cycles. Water, soil, nutrients – they all go around. Then they come back around again. These tidy wasteless processes offer the Kermit in me great comfort and satisfaction, like how I feel after harvesting my compost bin, or line-drying my linens in July. Show me a product that cycles waste materials into something useful and I’m over the moon!
Did you know that you can recycle leather? While my inner vegetarian crosses her arms with reservation, a wave of gentle curiosity takes over. Toronto-based flooring company Torly’s is curently promoting their line of recycled leather flooring. And, based on what I’ve seen so far, the product seems quite promising. Preparation Sets the Stage for Success

Schmidt Realty Group provides FREE Home Staging to all our sellers! “Ideas for staging the house were invaluable and much appreciated! We’d definitely use SCHMIDT again!” Pat Crevolin July 23, 2008
According to Wikipedia…
Home staging is the act of preparing a private residence prior to going up for sale in the real estate marketplace. The goal of staging is to sell a home quickly, and for the most money possible by making a home appealing to the highest number of potential buyers. Staging focuses on improving a property to make it appeal to the largest number of buyers by transforming it into a welcoming, appealing, and attractive product for sale. Many people believe that staging raises the value of a property by way of reducing the home’s flaws, depersonalizing, decluttering, cleaning, improving condition items, and landscaping. For vacant homes, staging furniture is used to create a living space the buyer can “see” themselves living in. Properly executed staging leads the eye to attractive features while minimizing flaws.
